Frequently asked questions about Mabelle

We selected what most people wonder about.

Folic acid is important for healthy development of your baby, as it reduces the occurrence of neural tube defects. It is recommended to take folic acid daily, beginning at least 3 months prior to conception and continuing throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Taking products containing 100% methyl folate, an active form of folate which is easily utilized by every woman, is the way to provide the right level of protective folate level in your body.
Folic acid is particularly important in the preconception and early pregnancy phase. Women should start taking folic acid at least 3 months before planned pregnancy and continue till week 12 of the pregnancy. It prepares the body for the pregnancy and supports the healthy development of your baby.  The baby's supply of folic acid is drawn from the mother regardless of her supply. In situations such as nausea during pregnancy, despite all efforts, the intake from the mother's diet may not be sufficient, so supplementation is advisable. Women during lactation tend to have a lower-quality dietary pattern when compared to pregnancy, even though their nutrient requirements are higher for the most part. There is also a tendency to restrict certain foods due to flatulence and colic in babies. The nutritional focus during breastfeeding tends to be on the newborn, often neglecting the mother’s diet. It is important to supplement folic acid during breastfeeding to replenish the mom's supply.
It is not yet known exactly what period of preconception use is optimal for reducing the risk of neural tube defects. During pregnancy, the need for folate increases to two to three times the pre-pregnancy values. Supplementation with folic acid is internationally recommended to women from the moment they are trying to conceive until 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is also a World Health Organization recommendation. Recent evidence proves that folic acid (folate) reduces the occurrence of Neural Tube Defects by as much as 50 % to 70 % if 400 µg is taken daily beginning at least 3 months prior to conception and continuing throughout pregnancy.
Different products vary according to the developmental stages of the fetus and later the newborn, which have slightly different nutrient requirements. Also, the mother's body is stressed in a slightly different way at each stage of pregnancy and breastfeeding, and her nutrient requirements depend on this.  For example, in the case of folate, the pre-pregnancy period and the first weeks of pregnancy are the most important for the healthy development of the baby. In the next stage of pregnancy and during breastfeeding, folate intake is important for replenishing the mother's stores.
