In vitro fertilization (IVF) is for many couples the way to the desired baby. Lifestyle changes, led by appropriate diet, can greatly increase the success rate of IVF. Why is proper nutrition so important and what should the ideal diet before and after IVF look like? 

How does a healthy diet affect the chances of successful IVF? 

It is an undeniable fact that what we eat has a major impact on our reproductive health. In fact, a healthy diet provides the body with the nutrients, minerals and vitamins necessary for healthy egg and sperm production, thereby increasing the success rate of IVF. In addition, IVF puts a lot of stress on a woman's body, so you should think about your health as well.  

Studies have also confirmed that sufficient physical fitness can influence the success of IVF. Both obesity and malnutrition can adversely affect fertility and reduce the success rate of IVF. However, even women who are at an optimal weight should pay attention to their diet and ensure that they are getting all the necessary nutrients.

When to start preparing for IVF?

Some dietary supplements can also contribute to the success of IVF. In case you have low vitamin D levels, start taking it before your IVF cycle. It is also advisable to take fish oil, which can support the embryonic development of the baby.

Processed foods and foods high in sugar are also inappropriate. You should also consider limiting caffeine. You should avoid toxic chemicals and heavy metals that may be present in, for example, soaps, cleaning products, or food packaging.
